Oneness

One of the many goals of meditation is to enable self-awareness so that we lead a life which is balanced, aligned with ‘Manasa – Vacha – Karma’. What we think, what we say and what we do are one, effortlessly and always.

Turn your eyes in any direction, we see duplicity or the acceptance of duality. Our life is rooted in being someone else, other than thine own self. We behave differently at home and at work. We are different with family, and with friends our attitude is different. What we wear at home is usually not what we wear when we are out. What we eat at home is not what we prefer to eat when we step out of the house. In everything, we have an inbuilt duality. We are always playing a part, someone who is a part only, and not the whole.

We add to our woes by falling prey to all the attractions that lead us away from the Self. We are conscious about our looks; all our focus is on our appearance and appearances. At an age when we should be exploring the world with wonder, children today are immersed in a virtual world. We are out of touch with the real, and the Natural. As we grow older, the distance between the Self and self also grows. We get used to living oblivious to our real Self.

We have been divided in our thoughts, words and deeds from the moment we were mentored about life lessons. We were asked to be honest, within the grey area, behave so as not to hurt anyone. Before we realize, our thoughts, words and deeds move in three different directions. Is it a wonder why many drop off, or shy away from meditation, facing oneself?
