Inventure – Niyama – Towards freedom

Heartfulness meditation releases the daily dose of self-awareness and introspection. The heart is the center of emotions and a reflection of the true self. The connection with source is eternal. But our proclivities and inclinations create layers, and our true self becomes blurred.

Without re-establishing the connection to the heart, I realized that I lacked the discernment to know my true direction. My head wanted many things, and by the time I listened to my heart, I had already acted on one or more my head’s whims! Meditation peeled these layers, revealing my true self to me. Facing my inner self is an arduous task, and it took me very long to understand that the more resistance I felt, the more assiduously I needed to stick to my practice.

“The physical heart represents the heart chakra, which is the custodian of many mysteries. It is the vehicle that transports you to the higher levels of consciousness… The heart is connected with all sixteen chakras. Just as watering the roots of a plant nourishes even its farthest branches, meditating on the heart chakra ensures work is done on all the chakras. – Kamlesh D Patel in The Spiritual Anatomy.”

As the roots started to get watered every day, whatever I did not need started to fall away, and whatever I needed to imbibe came to light.  Discipline or niyama, the second limb of yoga happened naturally.  The inter connection between my outside and how it affected my inside taught to me to eat right, sleep right. I willingly embraced the attributes of right thinking, correct understanding and an honest approach to life; the attributes to help me progress on my path.

All my life I rebelled against being disciplined. Discipline meant rules, bondages, ties and restrictions, none of these terms appealed to me. It felt like I was being controlled and forced to do or be against my will. Willingly practicing a disciplined life actually set me free! Where I used to struggle to accomplish three tasks in a day, today I am doubly productive.  And I have the energy, and free time to take on new challenges, new adventures!
