My Reiki Journey

Most of the subjects I have studied have been out of curiosity, interest and faith in the subject; the faith that this learning would better my life in some way. I studied Counselling, Homeopathy, Natural healing, Colour therapy, Life coaching, Flower Remedies to name some; all of these subjects I chose to study because I believed in them.

Reiki is perhaps the only subject which happened to me, without my choosing. I knew an aunt back home who taught Reiki for free, all the way up to practitioners’ level. She offered to teach me, train me to do reiki on myself and help others too. I was skeptical about the veracity of this healing method. The cursory research I did was not very enlightening nor encouraging and I declined the aunt’s offer. This happened more than a decade ago.

In the interim, life caught up with me and I forgot all about Reiki. Two years ago, I developed a throbbing pain in my right leg, and I started searching for a physiotherapist and the right Homeopathy remedy. I did find my Homeo remedy (I will share that journey on my Homeo page) but I could not find a good physiotherapist. Instead, these Reiki websites kept popping up and I inadvertently booked an appointment for myself. ‘What the heck’, I thought, ‘If this works, I can learn it for free and start reaping the benefits from today. Better late than never’.

That one session changed my perspective about this wonderful, nay, magical healing practice. I immediately tried to enroll myself and to my misfortune, it is not offered free of cost in the country I live in today. But, my need to learn and practice this magical method was so strong that I paid (a hefty amount too) and earned my professional degree in Reiki.

So, for the skeptical readers, please believe me and if anyone gets a chance to learn Reiki, please don’t miss the chance. In case you want to learn online, there are a few certified courses being offered, and with sincere practice one can become a good reiki practitioner.

Reiki is taught in many ways, and with many side dishes to add flavour to the core practice. My teacher did Reiki and affirmation with angels, and Reiki and crystal healing. She also did one small session on how to use the Pendulum to be able to read the client’s mental state. I will add my learnings in the following posts. In India we are also taught something called Karuna Reiki which has ‘OM’ as part of the healing symbol. More to follow in our next posts…
