When I started meditation, I was sceptical about my success. Because, from my study and understanding of meditation, it is the seventh step on the 8steps of Yoga, as taught by Pathanjali.
The eight limbs of yoga are yama (abstinences), niyama (observances), asana (yoga postures), pranayama (breath control), pratyahara (withdrawal of the senses), dharana (concentration), dhyana (meditation) and samadhi (absorption).
I felt unrealistically ambitious starting off on the seventh step, without any knowledge of the preceding six limbs! It felt like I set myself up for failure. How was I going to meditate and achieve the highest goal, when I am still clueless about the Self!

As I practiced heartfulness, I learnt that the inner journey is replete with principle of invertendo! The more I practice heartfulness meditation, the more I work on myself, and gain self- awareness.
And, The language of the heart is inspiration. When you meditate on the heart, its inspiration flows through your consciousness, creating ennobling thoughts. But if consciousness is blocked with prejudice and bias- spiritual poison- the heart’s inspirations cannot achieve their true potential. – The spiritual Anatomy by Kamlesh D Patel
All I needed was to stay on the road, continue my inner journey with steadfast faith and discipline. And my mind is learning to be still, eager to listen to the heart. I caused myself great harm allowing my mind to control my emotions and decision making. This has changed now. The focus in within, and the insights I receive are naturally aligned with the preceding six limbs of yoga. Heartfulness helped me willingly put to practice the other steps, without any force.
