Happy New Year - with Dhyana

786sharanya

A Joyous New year!  I pray that it is replete with hope, joys and abundance for everyone. And I thank you all for your support and love. Without you there is no me, the writer, counsellor, or friend. You inspire me to be a better person everyday and I am ever grateful to all of you for prodding me on.

The last two weeks went away in a flurry. A much welcome break with family and siblings visiting Prague, Bern and Wales. And as I get back to my routine, I am wondering what I can share with all of you, which might be interesting and helpful.

As all my learnings come because of or during meditation, so I will start with the same topic; and try to explain the word Meditation as the English translation does not do the word any justice.

“Meditation is a practice of concentrated focus upon a sound, object, visualization, the breath, movement, or attention itself in order to increase awareness of the present moment, reduce stress, promote relaxation, and enhance personal and spiritual growth.”

The Sanskrit word for meditation is Dhyana and is broken into two parts: Dhi and Yana. Yana is a vehicle which enables us to move from one place to another, physically or otherwise! The root word is Dhi which means the mind or the conscious awareness of the person or ultimate wisdom as my master explains it. So, meditation is the tool which refines the consciousness, expands it and leads us towards self-realization.

Self- realization or knowing The Brhman is the goal of human life. I will also try to explain the term Brahman, because our ultimate goal is possible only through meditation. Without Dhyana, Brahman is not possible.

Dhyana gradually peals away the layers of samskara (conditioning and complexities) and the connect of the self with the Self, true source, within becomes visible to the seeker.
