Goal of education?

A student wanted to know the goal of education.

The teacher answered, “That’s a tough question, and I don’t have an answer for it! As I understand, education is an all-encompassing term. It begins at home and is an ongoing journey. One way or the other, you are always engaged in educating yourselves. School and college education is to prepare oneself for what you are aiming to become. Whichever field you wish to pursue you need guidance from existing experts and prepare to excel in that field. The more you focus on what you want to do and work dedicatedly in that direction the better are your chances of succeeding. Having the blinkers on helps in focusing only on the self, and not on the failed system, or the lack of deservingness, the paucity of good teachers, and many other such excuses which may crop to justify your lack of honest efforts.”

“True education brings forth the true worth in you. It is like peeling the onion, not just gaining bookish knowledge, but also letting go of the irrelevant knowledge your active mind keeps grabbing from the world. Only education without any personal experience lacks wisdom. You need to unload, offload the bits that are not relevant to you.

Spiritual education helps us in this, in evolving our consciousness.  Because spiritually speaking, education is to unload oneself from all sorts of knowledge. Exactly the opposite of what you aspire for in the material world.  Food over eaten causes indigestion either you feel nauseous, or you suffer diarrhea. Bookish knowledge not backed by experience results in mental diarrhea and indigestion. That’s why the persistent dis-satisfaction and comparison with the other.

Today, education is a tool to gain material comforts, a glowing future. Instead, if you change your mindset and learn to educate yourselves not for a career but for a better Self, your true self will help you walk in the right direction, with naturally made right choices.
