I will conclude this series with the few suggestions offered by the author to develop a growth mindset. My intention is not to encourage the reader to get rid of the fixed mindset totally. My intent is for the reader to embrace the growth mindset because change and evolution are part of the growth mindset.
As novices, our learning is with the help of certain tools, like the third support wheel of the bicycle. It comes off once we learn cycling! Similarly, use the attributes of the fixed mindset to accomplish what the growth mindset offers: freedom and evolution.
Growth mindset helps me lift myself up and lands me on my feet with renewed learning and maturity every time I fall! I feel miserable but I continue to seek out information and try to improve myself. Something is still missing, and I need to fill in the gaps. Maybe I am not asking the right questions, I am not reaching out to the right people, I want to tick all the boxes and assure myself that I have done everything I could. If it does not fructify after that, then I won’t be guilty of abandoning my dream.
Make a concrete, growth-oriented plan and stick to it with a fixed mindset!
Use all the resources available, tools, tutors and team. Don’t shy away from asking questions, making a fool of myself (this has been my biggest failing) So what if it is a silly question for someone, it is important to me, and I need the answers. So, be courageous and ask away. My growth depends on my being open minded.
The other fixed mindset syndrome I need to get rid of is – I deserve, I am entitled to syndrome! Growth mindset has no room for such illusions. I am on a continuous learning trajectory, and I earn what I worked for. Nothing more, and I am not willing to settle for anything less either.
